GDC Uttersoo organized awareness Programme on AIDS Under the chairmanship of Worthy Principal Professor Mushtaq Ahmad Sohil, Red Ribbon Committee in collaboration Department of Zoology and Debates and Seminar Committee organized Awareness Programme on AIDS today as on 23rd October, 2024. The Programme started with the welcome address by Worthy Principal. The worthy Principal also delivered inaugural address in which he highlighted the presented status of this disease across the world including India.
This inaugural address was followed by talk of first resource Person “Dr Shinu Mushtaq, General Physician, Sub District Hospital, Achabal. In her deliberations, nature of the genome of HIV was highlighted. Modes of transmission of this Virus from infected to healthy indiduals via blood contact, semen and vaginal secretions and placenta was elaborated in detail. Asymptomatic stages of AIDS and Full-grown AIDS, biochemical and molecular diagnosis of this disease have been explained by this resource person. Different treatments for this disease were elucidated and the speaker also
advised the gatherings to have serological tests every after six months.

The 2nd speaker on the occasion was Community Health Officer, Mr. Mohd Afzal. He focused his talk on different initiatives of Govt. for curbing this disease. He provided the information about the
different labs at the block level where preliminary screening for this disease is being carried out. He also pointed out that when the person tests positive in preliminary screening, the final confirmations
are being done at SKIMS, Srinagar where treatment for HIV positive persons is free of cost. The talk was followed by question-answer session in which both the resource persons answered all the queries raised by the audience.

The programme culminated with formal vote of thanks delivered by Professor Nazir Ahmad Wani, Convener Red Ribbons. The esteemed professor thanked worthy principal for his consistent encouragement and support in organizing such types of awareness programmes. He also thanked resource persons for their thought provoking talks and the Protocol committee for arranging light refreshments.
